I was born and raised on the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaiʻi. I am part Hawaiian, Japanese and Portuguese. I found an interest in Japan in the 8th grade when I took my first Japanese class. It was also around that time that I found out about the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Since then, it was my goal to get into the JET Program and live in Japan. In 2023, I finally achieved my goal and became an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) placed in Fukuoka Prefecture. I have lived here for three years and I plan to continue for 2 more years. During my time here so far, I have gotten the opportunity to take part in many different cultural practices, visit different cities in Japan, and meet many amazing people. These experiences have encouraged me to want to share them with others. It has been said and done already but my goal for this website is to mainly focus on sharing sides of Japan that aren’t well-known. I want to give my perspective as a foreigner living and traveling in Japan.
